On June 9, 2000 we held our first annual
meeting since the chapter’s reorganization in mid 1999. The event took place at Jillian’s located at
the Concord Mills mall. There was a
great turnout for the event, which provided an opportunity for social
interaction among local alumni. Alumni from Charlotte, Davidson, Concord,
Belmont and Highlands attended the event.
Every year the Charlotte Chapter conducts
an annual meeting which provides an opportunity to kick off the annual
membership drive, notify members of progress the Chapter has made in addition
to plans and activities for the up coming year, and elect directors. The meeting also provides the opportunity
for alumni to be entertained by a guest speaker from University Park.
This year Tina Hay, editor of the award winning and nationally
acclaimed Penn Stater Magazine, was the guest speaker for the
evening. Tina entertained alumni by
discussing the history of the magazine and how it has progressed over the
years. In addition, Tina conducted a
slide presentation of past articles and covers of the Penn Stater and
provided insight on how the articles and covers are picked and/or rejected for
publication. Tina’s sense of humor,
subject matter and exceptional public speaking skills provided for an evening
of great entertainment.
After the conclusion of the meeting, the Chapter provided game cards to all alumni and their respective guests, which enabled them to play games in the game room.
The Chapter would like to thank the following people:
·
Tina Hay, for attending and being our guest
speaker
·
All alumni, family and friends that attended
·
Pete and Jean Sarjeant for driving four hours to
attend the meeting. As Tina would say,
you are Penn State.
